There comes an age when our children begin to want to assert their independence. Maybe they want to attend their very first sleepover or perhaps they want to be able to ride their bike down the street on their own to their friend’s house.
This story tells the tale of a young boy named Huxley who wanted to ride his scooter in his neighborhood and came face-to-face with something he never imagined he’d encounter right outside his home.
Huxley was a 7-year-old boy living in British Columbia, Canada, who loved to be outside as much as possible. He found simple pleasures in playing imaginative games with his friends and riding his beloved scooter around his community.
One morning, Huxley wanted to get outside and enjoy a little time on his scooter, so he asked his mother if he could go play and she agreed. According to Inside Edition, Huxley was riding his scooter within his cul-de-sac when a large black bear came trotting up to him and stopped just a few feet away to stare.
In security footage obtained by the entertainment outlet, the 7-year-old can be seen calmly standing his ground and stopping to look the bear in the face. After a moment, a nearby neighbor is seen getting out of his truck as he puts his arms up in hopes of intimidating the bear to continue on his way.

It takes a moment, but the black bear can eventually be seen scurrying away. Inside Edition spoke to Huxley and his mom, Britney, about the bear encounter. The mom explained that she’s always urged her son to “be aware” of his surroundings, but all-in-all, she’s super “proud” of how he reacted in this situation.
