Chris and Lenia were a young married couple totally in love and looking to start a family together. After years of trying to have a baby, they realized that their dream of becoming parents might not come to fruition in the traditional way, so they decided to look into adoption.
They began working with an adoption agency and found a photo of a little girl named Maria who instantly captured both their hearts. But there was one issue that stood out to the couple: Maria was 6 years old and they had planned to adopt a baby.
Despite Maria’s age, the couple decided to move forward with her. They both found themselves falling in love with Maria from afar and they asked the agency to speed up the adoption process. It took just three weeks to finalize the paperwork.
The day finally arrived when they were greeting Maria at the airport with a support worker from the orphanage by her side. They had some final papers to sign and soon they were taking Maria back to their home so she could see where she was going to live.
Even though they had some difficulties communicating due to a language barrier, the couple had hopes that with their Portuguese lessons and Maria attempting to learn English, they would find their connection.
Maria was very quiet and tired when they got her home, so they quickly showed her around her new home and put her to bed.
After Maria went to sleep, Lenia and Chris went back to the photos that they were originally sent of the little girl because something just seemed off. She didn’t really look anything like the little girl in the pictures and there had been something odd about her when they hugged.
