Salena Catron is a neighbor and good friend of WWII veteran and retired mailman Ralph Kuntz. As his 100th birthday approached, she knew she had to do something very special to celebrate the day — and then, an idea occurred to her. What if she reached out to people and asked for cards to be sent?
“I’d like to ask anyone who is able to kindly send a birthday card to this gentleman to let him know we appreciate his service that contributed to the war effort that saved the world from tyranny,” Catron wrote on the Facebook page she created in Kuntz’s honor.
And wouldn’t you know it? Many people did send cards — a whopping 7,084 people, to be exact!
In this absolutely touching video, you’ll get to see Kuntz discover just how many people all over the world are wishing him all the best on his happy day.
Navy veterans are incredible people. Remember the man who started a fly-fishing club to help his fellow veterans find healing? Or the vet who donated his savings to send kids to college? Spreading a little kindness will always show many returns!
Catron says that, “The love that has come from all over the world is enormous, and last night, after all the excitement, […] I said, ‘That's a lot of love, isn't it?’ and he said ‘And I feel it, too.’”
For anyone who might be interested in how Kuntz is doing, he recently celebrated his 101st birthday, and many people donated to a charity of his choosing to celebrate this time around.
