She Stepped Up To A Podium In Front Of All These Adults. What She Said? I’m STUNNED!

While growing up, I was a typical student who always moaned about having too much homework or having too many tests to study for. Like most kids, I wanted to use my free time outside of school hours to play or catch up with my friends. It looks like fourth-grader Sydney Snoot of Florida is no different, as she recently took the stand at her county's school board meeting to express her frustrations with standardized testing at her elementary school. (Her message makes sense, unlike the complaining parents seemed to be doing at this school).

Nine-year-old Sydney spoke for her fellow peers when she said that she doesn't like the fact that administrators treat her more like a number than a student, and that she has to sign a contract agreeing not to even tell her parents about her tests. She said, "This testing looks at me as a number. One test defines me as either a failure or a success through a numbered rubric … I do not feel that all this FSA testing is accurate to tell how successful I am."

Talk about making a powerful statement! And I can't help but applaud her for both her great display of maturity and bravery as well — she seems so much older than her years! Even most adults would be nervous talking up on a podium like that!
