Little Girl’s Incredible ‘Ghostbusters’ Costume Goes Viral

At just 7 years old, Matilda Burnett is well on her way to becoming an amazing "girl boss."

When her father, Max Burnett, recently bought them both tickets to see the new all-female Ghostbusters movie, this budding feminist sprang into action.

Determined to show just how much of a fan she was of the fact that this was an all-female remake, this crafty girl headed into her room. With only about an hour to go before their departure time, she was a gal on a mission.

Soon, she reemerged, dressed head to toe in her new Ghostbusters jumpsuit, crafted out of an old zookeeper's costume.

Her proud dad, in awe of his inspiring little superhero, took a photo of his daughter, and posted it to social media. Not long after, his post began soliciting all sorts of praise, even catching the eye of the movie's director, Paul Feig, who couldn't have been more on board with Matilda's awesome getup.

"She is definitely a strong spirit," Burnett told LittleThings of his daughter. "She follows her own path and regrets nothing."

Seven-year-old Matilda Burnett is a big fan of girl power.

Recently, her dad, Max Burnett, revealed that he'd bought them each a ticket to see a screening of the new Ghostbusters remake, featuring an all-female cast, and Matilda completely freaked.

Burnett told the Huffington Post, "She was very excited that it was all women. She regularly tells me that there should be more ‘girl bosses’ in the world,” to which her dad says, “I agree.”

On track to be one of those 'girl bosses' herself, Matilda used this movie-going opportunity to go above and beyond in solidarity with the other strong women in the film's cast whom she so greatly admires.

She decided to craft her own Ghostbusters costume, and wear it to the Sherman Oaks, CA, movie theater for the show.

Burnett told LittleThings of his daughter, "She has always let her passions and imagination rule since she was 3."

An hour before they were set to leave for the showing, Burnett told the Huffington Post: "She disappeared into her room. Thirty minutes later, she had turned an old zookeeper costume she made into a Ghostbusters outfit. She had drawn and cut out the patches and attached them with tape.”

She was even sporting her own proton pack backpack.

With an adorable little ghost doll stuffed in her pack, this Ghostbuster was ready to stand tall, supporting her sisters.

Burnett told LittleThings of going to the movie with Matilda in costume: "It was a long walk from parking to the theater and many people called out in appreciation. After all this blew up, a woman reached out on Twitter and said she saw us that day."

And, to no one's surprise, Matilda loved the movie!

Completely inspired by his daughter's creativity and prowess at crafting such an amazing costume on such short notice, her proud dad snapped a picture of her, and shared it with friends online.

All sorts of folks started sharing their praise for the photo, so Burnett decided, on a whim, to tweet the picture at Ghostbusters director Paul Feig as well.

Much to his surprise, Feig not only saw the picture, but tweeted back, saying: "Okay, this is why we made this movie. She is awesome and I love that she made her own proton pack! She’s a warrior.”

"It's been nonstop," Burnett told LittleThings of the social media feedback. "There have been lots of kind people who tweeted back who were inspired or felt the same way."

Burnett told LittleThings: "We find inspiration in kids' reactions all the time. They're unfiltered. They aren't jaded. And they give us a window into what's so wonderful in the world.

"I find strength in [Matlida's] strength all the time," he said of his daughter. "It's so easy to get lost in day-to-day stuff. But when you see someone like her, you remember how awesome it is to follow your bliss."
