Prom is a special night for all teenagers. It's a chance to have fun, let loose, and spend time with your closest friends before graduation rolls by.
A student from Muskogee, Oklahoma, wanted to enjoy her prom with a special friend, but her school denied her request. Luckily, she wasn't going to give up that easily.
Alexis Morse invited her friend T.T. Glass to go to prom with her. The 48-year-old man has Down syndrome and he never attended his own prom.
It sounded like a wonderful opportunity until Alexis' school said he wasn't allowed in because of his age. In fact, no guest over the age of 21 was allowed to attend the Muskogee High School prom.
Although the teenager understood why her school had the rule in place, she still wanted to give T.T. the opportunity to be part of an enjoyable celebration. Then she created an alternate prom.
In the video below, posted on April 8, 2017, Alexis explains, "Most people that are disabled don’t get to go to prom just because they don’t get asked and they can’t really attend without supervision."
Alexis worked with her principal to create an alternate prom for anyone unable to attend her high school's prom, so other guests with special needs could have the night of their lives too!
