Relationships are all about acceptance. If you really love someone, you have to learn to accept even the parts of them that are imperfect, or that you might not really like. George Stephanopoulus knows a bit about that, according to his wife, Ali Wentworth.
When guest-hosting Live With Kelly and Ryan, Ali recently opened up about how George has had to come to terms with the fact that, sometimes, she gives a little too much information to the public when it comes to talking about their sex life.
Ali is a comedian and an actress with a pretty big personality. So of course George likely knew what he was getting into. But that doesn't always mean that it's easy to be married to someone who can be loose-lipped, especially when they're in the public eye.
"At the beginning of our marriage, there was a lot of, 'Don't talk about this,'" she explained to Ryan Seacrest. "In fact, there was an event when we were first married, and Page Six wrote that George and I were getting a divorce." Ali wasn't having any of that.
She felt inclined to set the record straight. "A Washington Post reporter got my cell phone number and called me and said, 'What do you think about what they wrote, that you and George are getting divorced?' I said, 'You show me a couple that has sex twice a day that's getting a divorce,' which was my way of dealing with it."
Ali said it wasn't long before George heard about the comment and called her, "enraged." But Ali looks at it as a part of her personality. "My argument with George was, 'This is just who I am. I talk about my life,'" she continued. "I don't get in trouble anymore because I think he's realized who I am."
Of course, Ali has likely learned to censor herself, at least a bit. But George has definitely learned some acceptance, too. And that's probably why they are still married, because they practice accepting one another's flaws, and they compromise.
They also seem like they are genuinely very much in love. I mean, at least Ali wasn't sharing something depressing about their relationship. She was letting the public know that they were certainly not headed for a divorce and that they had an active sex life. That may also be why George eventually let it go.
Either way, Ali is always pretty vocal and active on social media. She just shared a sweet picture of their daughter heading off to prom. It was a really special night for everyone in the family, she said, because neither she nor George made it to their own proms.
"I went to an all-girls school, so we didn't have a prom. So this is like our first prom," she explained, jokingly adding, "I said to my daughter Elliott, 'I'm also going to wear a gown.'"
It's definitely not easy to be married to a person who doesn't keep things as private as you do. But opposites do tend to attract! Ali and George's relationship is a testament to just how important it is to keep getting to know your partner as you move forward in your relationship. You can find new levels of understanding, acceptance, and even love.
Above all, points for George for not being intimidated his wife's snarky mouth — and points for Ali for spillin' the goods.
