In 2021, Julia Mitchell was just your average 15-year-old. She was looking forward to getting her license and even got a job to save up for her own car.
Julia worked at Subway until she had to give up the job for a heartbreaking reason. In August, Julia was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a form of bone cancer. She had no choice but to leave her job behind as she got treatment.
"When she started her treatment, the first thing she was worried about was not being able to work and get a car," her mom recalled, per Inside Edition.
Julia has taken her illness as an opportunity to educate people on social media about childhood cancers. Her YouTube channel has over 1,000 subscribers, with over 20,000 views on her first video about her experience.
For her sweet 16, Julia was treated by the members of her community to a birthday parade. She was able to receive well-wishes and gifts, including a big surprise she wasn't expecting. Julia was gifted a Volkswagen Beetle, paid for by members of the community and provided by Van Chevrolet in Scottsdale.
Julia is looking forward to finishing treatment and getting well enough to drive.
"I love it, I'll definitely use it when I'll be able to," she shared with a smile.
