April is National Autism Awareness Month, and also a perfect time to give to autism-related charities. A New Jersey boy with autism wants to give back to a charity that has changed his life, and is asking for help to do that.
A service dog changed Lucas Weiner’s life. Before he had his dog, Rafael, the 11-year-old wasn’t sleeping or eating, and he tended to wander in public. Rafael has lowered his stress, and has made his life better — the two are even best friends!
Now, Lucas wants to pay it forward to help another child get a service dog, but needs some help to do it. Training service dogs is expensive, so in order to reach his goal, Lucas needs to raise $50,000 for the “Healing Autism” program. He has set up a GoFundMe page to help with his efforts, and if you want to help Lucas reach his goal, you can donate here.
“If there was ever a kid that could raise $50,000, I’m going to say that Lucas is the kid,” says Healing Autism director Caroline McCabe Sandler.
Many children like Lucas have benefitted from the companionship of a service dog. This young man with autism has his service dog by his side, which has helped him live his best life. This boy whois affected by autism, cerebral palsy, apraxia, and pica has found his service dog to be a blessing, and one that helps him with day-to-day activities.
