When you’re the parent of a baby, there is something so special about the sheer anticipation that comes along with waiting to see what your baby’s first words will be. Oftentimes, they’re getting toward the 1-year mark when you’re coaxing them to say “mama” or “dada,” but it can happen sooner than that.
Inside Edition shares the story behind a video that went viral on YouTube of what sounds like a 3-month-old mimicking his dad and saying something incredibly heartfelt. Was it actually real, though? Let’s discuss.
The internet couldn’t stop debating when dad Ted Moskalenko from North Carolina posted a video on YouTube of his 3-month-old son sounding as though he’s mimicking the words “I love you” back to him as they sit sweetly looking at one another.
“It was an utter shock to me because it was … his first words,” Ted explains of feeling extremely surprised to catch that moment on camera. “And seeing him mimic me was just unbelievable.”
Inside Edition showed the clip to speech pathologist Stacy Miller, and she shared her thoughts. “Typically, we don’t see speech and verbal speech until around 18 months. You can see it a little bit earlier, but typically, we don’t.”
Stacy goes on to explain that this was likely an imitation of something the baby had heard a lot at home from both his parents, so he was able to mimic it quite nicely at that moment.
The production team at Inside Edition even tried to coerce the baby into a repeat event of sorts over a video chat, but they had no such luck.
