Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's baby boy is FINALLY here. Now that the long wait is over, royal fans are swirling with questions. What will the baby's name be? Where did the birth take place? Exactly how adorable is he?!?!
One looming question: Who will the Duke and Duchess of Sussex choose to be their baby's godparents? The royal tradition is to choose at least five godparents, and Meghan and Harry have plenty of close pals to choose from.
The baby could end up with some celebrity godparents, People reports. Bookies in the UK are placing bets on the baby's godparents, and some of their top picks are names you probably recognize. Serena Williams, Amal and George Clooney, and Oprah Winfrey are all in the running.
Other front-runners include well-known close friends of the couple, like Jessica Mulroney and Charlie van Straubenzee.
We'll have to wait to find out who Meghan and Harry pick — they'll probably announce it at their baby boy's christening.
In the early morning on May 6, 2019, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry welcomed their first child, a baby boy. He weighed 7 lbs., 3 oz.
Prince Harry addressed the press soon after the birth. He explained that the couple is still in the process of choosing a name for their baby boy.
"[We’re] still thinking about names. The baby’s a little bit overdue, so we’ve had a little bit of time to think about it. That’s the next bit," Harry said.
Without even a baby name picked out yet, it's very possible that Meghan and Harry haven't nailed down their choice of godparents just yet. Either way, they probably won't make that announcement until Baby Sussex's christening.
And in the meantime, gamblers in the UK are placing their bets!
It's not likely that the couple will choose Prince William or Kate Middleton as godparents, People reports. Per royal tradition, the godparent role is usually reserved for other important people in the parents' lives, like close friends.
One front-runner is Meghan's close friend, Jessica Mulroney. Jessica and her three children played a big role in Meghan's wedding, and Jessica helped plan Meghan's New York baby shower.
Another likely option is Charlie van Straubenzee, one of Prince Harry's oldest friends. Charlie and Harry know each other from prep school; Harry went to school with Charlie's late brother.
It's also possible that the Sussexes will pick some household names as godparents. Amal and George Clooney are the two likeliest celebrities at the moment, according to betters.
The Clooneys attended the Sussexes' wedding, and Amal Clooney was at Meghan's baby shower. George Clooney even publicly spoke up in Meghan's defense after her harsh treatment by the media.
Serena Williams is another possibility — she helped host Meghan's baby shower, and the two have been tight for years.
Other celebs with lower odds include Oprah Winfrey, David Beckham, and Elton John.
"Harry and Meghan have a load of options for the godparents, and I have a sneaky feeling that we could see a celeb or two get the call," William Hill spokesperson Rupert Adams said, according to People.
They might also choose other close friends, like Abigail Spencer, or more distant relatives, like Princess Eugenie.
Or they might choose friends who have chosen them as godparents in the past.
Meghan is godmother to her old pal Benita Litt's two daughters, who also played a role in the royal wedding. Harry is godfather to Nicholas van Cutsem's daughter.
The couple can pick several friends, so they don't have to be that picky. Kate and Prince William, for example, have given their kids anywhere from five to seven godparents each.
We're excited to find out who Meghan and Harry choose!
