Tough Biker Dads Rally Their Community To Help 1,700 Kids In Need Of Mentors

Growing up with my dad as a big, burly biker, I got used to seeing the stares he'd receive when we were out in public, especially if he happened be wearing his vest.

But what most people didn't realize was how underneath the long hair, bushy beard, and skin covered in tattoos, was one of the softest hearts you'd ever meet. In fact, most of the rough and tumble motorcyclists you see cruising down your highways are likely also involved in several community building programs, like the generous members of Bikers Against Child Abuse.

In Memphis, TN, a group of dads have gathered together to volunteer their time for another altruistic project, this time joining forces with the Shelby County District Attorney's Office and Memphis Grizzlies mentoring program for children in their area.

With 1,700 kids on a waiting list for that guiding hand, the "Biker Dads" knew it was time to step up and recruit members to share their wisdom with the younger generations.

Their focus will be primarily on middle school aged girls and boys. As Tom Lewis, also known as "Biker Dad Hoss," explains in the clip below, it's an age when, "they are old enough to know better, but young enough to need some help."

The group has already trained 10 dads and hopes to inspire a national program with their success.
