Bindi Irwin is a new mom! The 22-year-old started her family with her husband, Chandler Powell. The two met during a tour of the Australia Zoo, and now Chandler is a welcome addition to the Irwin family.
The daughter of Steve Irwin named her baby Grace Warrior Irwin Powell, paying respect to multiple people in both her and Chandler's family. And you can already tell that baby Grace is a sweetheart.
Even better, Grace was born on a very important day — Bindi's wedding anniversary with Chandler. "March 25, 2021. Celebrating the two loves of my life. Happy first wedding anniversary to my sweetheart husband and day of birth to our beautiful daughter," she wrote on Instagram. After sharing that first photo, she also carefully explained the details behind Grace's name.
"Grace Warrior Irwin Powell. Our graceful warrior is the most beautiful light. Grace is named after my great-grandmother, and relatives in Chandler’s family dating back to the 1700s. Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad and his legacy as the most incredible Wildlife Warrior," she explained.
"Her last name is Powell and she already has such a kind soul just like her dad," she explained. "There are no words to describe the infinite amount of love in our hearts for our sweet baby girl. She chose the perfect day to be born and we feel tremendously blessed."
Bindi first announced her pregnancy in August 2020. A few weeks later, she shared with her followers that she was expecting a girl. "Discovering that I was going to become a mother will forever be a moment where time stood still," she admitted on Instagram. Soon to follow were plenty of photos of her growing baby bump.
Lucky for fans, Bindi continues to share the love on Instagram. As she was more or less born into a famous family herself, she's not being shy about sharing photos of baby Grace. In her second shared shot, Bindi showcased what Grace was like at a week old. "Our perfect Grace Warrior is one week old. This week has been filled with sweet snuggles and infinite love," she wrote.
But her latest picture is one of the best. In it, Grace is peacefully sleeping. And you can just tell that Bindi posted this photo with so much love and adoration for her young daughter. "Our beautiful girl, always dreaming," she wrote in the caption.
Bindi is constantly reminded of her father Steve, and many people feel as if Grace somewhat resembles him. No matter what, she has her whole family beside her for this new addition. Bindi's brother, Robert, has been more than grateful for his role as Grace's uncle.
"Let the uncle adventures begin!" he wrote on Instagram. "Love you so much, Grace ❤️ This little one picked the two best parents in the entire world. The most incredible, caring and strong Mum… and the funnest, coolest and kindest Dad. Love you three so much – I can't wait for this exciting journey ahead!"
Robert and Bindi have always been close. Robert even helped Chandler plan the proposal before Chandler asked Bindi to marry him. That shows a lot about Chandler's character, as well. He seems to be the perfect fit for Bindi, and everyone in the Irwin family openly adores him.
The family also had a funny prank involving Grace this year. "Grace’s first experience with crocs!!!" Robert wrote on a family picture. Everyone involved is holding a pair of the popular type of shoe with the same name. Still, it wouldn't be too hard to believe if Grace also had an early exposure to wildlife.
In fact, there's a pretty good chance that Grace already has a khaki shirt with her name on it. The Irwin family — including Chandler — have been quite busy at the Australia Zoo these days. The zoo also heavily pays tribute to Steve in many ways.
Even the zoo's webpage gives Steve's history, which is actually quite impressive if you only know him from television. "Steve demonstrated an uncanny gift with wildlife from a very young age," his biography reads. "He would go on field trips with his family right through the seventies, helping to relocate problem crocodiles, studying snakes in Queensland’s deserts and assisted the university with bird surveys."
So many people recognized Steve on television as being bubbly and brave. A lot of his maneuvers even seemed a bit scary. However, it's apparent that Steve was a professional, and as with the entire Irwin family and their passion for animals, it was simply in his blood. Steve died from a stingray attack in 2006, but he is still a beloved figure.
Fans can learn even more by tuning in to the latest show that the Irwin family is part of. Crikey! It's the Irwins first debuted back in 2018 and is still going strong. It's possible that Grace will also make an appearance or two, as Bindi has a big role in the series.
Steve Irwin would have made a wonderful grandfather. It's hard not to picture him in the role. However, no matter what, he would have been so proud of his family. They've continued his legacy in such a beautiful way and remain dedicated toward their mission of helping animals.
