Bride Cancels Engagement Photo Shoot Last-Minute To Take Pictures With Dying Father

Becky Carey and her fiancé, Matt, were so excited about their upcoming wedding day, as excited as any young couple about to embark on the journey of married life ought to be. The lovely couple from Virginia went back and forth with their photographer, Bonnie Turner, for over a year while trying to settle on a date for their engagement photo shoot. The photos were important to them, but unfortunately, it had been raining so much leading up to the photo shoot that they couldn't easily nail down a day.

Becky and Matt finally put down a deposit with Bonnie, then continued with their wedding plans.

Then Becky received some gut-punching news about her dad, Tim.

Tim, a loving husband, father, and retired Air Force colonel, was battling prostate cancer and could no longer handle treatment. He was about to start hospice, and Becky didn't know much longer she had with him. Her lifelong dream, of course, was to have him walk her down the aisle on her wedding day and share in the traditional father-daughter dance.

Since it'd been decades since the Carey family had taken professional family photos — and because her father was growing weaker by the day — Becky emailed Bonnie with a last-minute change of plans.

When Bonnie read the bride-to-be's email, she knew there was no way she could turn her down.
