Bride Goes To Pick Up Wedding Dress At Cleaners, Then Sees Unthinkable Note About It Being Sold

Tess Newall of East Lothian, Scotland, stunned guests by wearing a family heirloom on her wedding. The 29-year-old bride wore the wedding dress handmade nearly 150 years ago by her very own great-grandmother in 1870.

The wedding dress was passed down through generations and is clearly an important part of her family's history. After the wedding, Tess dropped the dress off at the cleaners. When her parents went to pick it up, a sign on the shop window said the store was closed and the dress was being auctioned off.

"It seems that the dress was taken to be sold so it could be winging its way anywhere. Please share this far and wide in case anyone stumbles across it!" Tess wrote on Facebook. "I realize there are far greater issues in the world, but it means the world to us. More family memories need to be woven into its threads."

The Facebook post went viral, which helped lead the newly wed to discover the mystery of where her dress went. Apparently, the dry cleaners' store was shut down and all the items inside were confiscated to be auctioned off.

The landlord heard about Tess' situation through his nephew and searched the property.

"My parents received a phone call this afternoon from the landlord of the property where the dry cleaners is, whose nephew had read about the dress," Tess said. "He really searched and he found a pile of old lace which he realized was what he thought was the dress."

When Tess' parents went to the cleaners, the dress was there, uncleaned and still with its ticket. Thanks to the kindness of strangers, this family heirloom was returned to its rightful owners.
