Britney Spears’ Son Jayden, 13, Says She Might ‘Quit’ Music And Publicly Blames His Grandfather

The youngest son of Britney Spears and Keven Federline has come out swinging in defense of his mom, and he has said that Britney Spears might quit music.

In a video posted to Instagram Live, Jayden said that he would tell the social media network what's "going on" with Britney if he could get more followers. "What’s going on with my mom? I’ll tell you guys the whole story about my mom and stuff if I get 5,000 followers on my Instagram. That stuff will come out way in the future [when] I get really popular."

People immediately took the bait. One person asked if Britney was being "controlled," and Jayden said that he didn't know.

Another asked why Britney quit her Las Vegas residency, and he said he wasn't sure. "Actually I haven’t seen her doing a lot of music at all. I don’t think that … I don’t know, dude. I don’t even know. I remember one time I asked her, I said, ‘Mom, what happened to your music?’ and she was like, ‘I don’t know, honey. I think I might just quit it.’ I’m like, ‘What? What are you saying? Like, do you know how much bank you make off of that stuff?’"

He also said that his dad and his mom's boyfriend are both great people, but he's not a fan of his grandfather, Jamie Spears. Fans of the singer will likely remember that she entered into a conservatorship that her father was in charge of for 10 years. It was a super-controversial decision, and it meant that everything she spent money on was entered into the public record.

For example, we know that Britney spent $570 on gas in 2010, and that she sold a car for $78,000 in 2012. Everything related to Britney's finances was controlled by her dad and a lawyer named Andrew M. Wallet. They were also in charge of a lot more of her life. According to E! News, "The gentlemen were installed as co-conservators of Britney's estate — and put in charge at the time of her medical care, career oversight and any monetary transaction — by a judge in the wake of her dual emergency hospitalizations in January 2008."

As of 2018, at the age of 36, Britney was still not fully in charge of her own business. For a while, it seemed like maybe the arrangement was a good idea. After all, Britney came of age under intense public scrutiny, which would be hard for anyone to bear. Peter Katsis, who was part of her management team in 2007, said, "It clearly wasn't working with her in control of the ship. It was overwhelming for her when she came of age."

But people always questioned the involvement of Britney's father and worried that the arrangement might not have been in Britney's favor or in her best interest. Britney really spiraled emotionally in the wake of her 2006 divorce from Kevin Federline, and she spent time in rehab as a result. When she came back home, she was told she couldn't see her kids right away. That made the situation worse.

She infamously shaved her head and looked delighted while doing so. After that, she ended up in another treatment center. At the time, a family friend said, "Everyone in the family is crying and beside themselves. To say that the family is devastated is beyond an understatement. Nobody knows what to do."

She had a fairly disastrous performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, and she also received a court order that she start undergoing random drug testing to keep custody of her kids. It turned out that she must have failed a few, because Britney's husband ended up being awarded sole custody of their sons. Britney was devastated, and she was also hurt by the media coverage. In response, she started doing odd things, like getting gas in the middle of the night and wearing wigs. This apparently worried her family more.

Jamie was appointed conservator on February 1, 2008. Britney tried to fight it but ultimately did not succeed. Later that year, she agreed that the arrangement could be permanent.

A few years later, it seemed that Britney had been able to focus on herself and her career. In 2015, her mom said, "I  am so proud of my daughter and all her accomplishments, but I am especially proud of the mom she is and the woman she has become."

Last year, she abruptly canceled her Las Vegas residency, and people began to worry about her again. A source told E! News, "Everything is up in the air right now and it's going to take time. Her health is going to come before anything else. Nobody is talking about touring or work. She's taking it easy and not thinking about her career. There's been no discussion about resuming her tour. She needs a break and time off. She's not in the mind frame to even think about performing."

The source continued, "She's on an indefinite work hiatus, that's been the same since January 4th." Another source said, "She's just focusing on her health and getting better, that's her priority. She's at a place where she's able to go out and she's working on herself. Britney and [boyfriend] Sam are totally fine and he's very supportive of her. Her parents are working together and are very supportive of her too. They take this very seriously and want the best for her."

Kevin Federline also filed for a restraining order against Britney's dad in September 2019. A source told Us Weekly, "Britney had the boys at Jamie’s condo on the evening of August 24. Jamie and Sean Preston got into an argument. Sean Preston felt unsafe and locked himself into a room. Jamie broke into the room and shook Sean Preston."

Kevin didn't push for criminal charges to be filed, but Jamie can't see either of the boys for three years. The agreement also says that another adult has to be present when the boys are with their mom, that it can't be Jamie, and that it has to be someone Kevin approves of. Britney currently has 30% custody of her sons.
