The cause of death of Tommy Smith, father to YouTuber and dancer Everleigh Rose, has been released. The Orange County Sheriff-Coroner confirmed to People that he died of acute fentanyl intoxication. He was 29, and the case remains open.
Smith co-parented Everleigh alongside her mother, influencer Savannah LaBrant, who has three younger children with husband Cole LaBrant.
Savannah LaBrant took to Instagram to share the news of Smith's untimely death with her followers.
"Our hearts are incredibly heavy as we process the loss of Everleigh's dad, Tommy," she captioned a photo of her ex with their daughter, 10.
"He loved Everleigh immensely.”
After asking for privacy so their family can process the loss, she added, “your prayers for Everleigh are so very appreciated. ."
Smith’s obituary noted that he “gained his wings unexpectedly.”
"He was a father, son, brother, grandson, family and friend to all. His love of living life to the absolute fullest along with his free spirit will be missed immensely."
The family also shared that they want others to give back in Smith’s name.
“To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Thomas, please visit our Tree Store or plant a tree.”
Smith had previously addressed what it was like to co-parent with LaBrant, who hosts several YouTube channels about her family’s life.
Amidst criticism thrown at the LaBrant family on a 2020 YouTube video, Smith wrote, "Sav and I love coparenting.”
“The hate in their direction needs to stop,” he said in defense of Savannah and Cole LaBrant. “Go plant a tree or something."
In a YouTube video posted a few months before Smith’s death, Everleigh can be seen saying she’s thankful to have two fathers. "One made me, and one raised me," she said.
When her mother asks how Everleigh likes having two fathers, the dancer smiles and responds, "I love it."
