In 1947, They Spend Honeymoon Here. 68 Years Later, The Hotel Remembers Them

In 1947, Charles and Frances Hamlin spent their honeymoon at the Westin Poinsett Hotel. They paid a whopping $8 for the room — it was quite a lot at the time — at the AAA four-diamond hotel in Greensville, South Carolina.

Charles, now Reverend Charles, a former Navy veteran, and Frances, a devoted wife and mother, don't have any photos from their wedding day. All they have is that $8 receipt.

After 68 years of marriage, the couple decided to return to the hotel that would now cost around $250 to $300 per night. However, when John Geddes, the sales director, heard that the couple still had their original $8 receipt, he knew he couldn't charge them a single cent more.

"Just for fun we’re charging $8. We wanted to replicate that as part of the experience,” Geddes said. “It’s very neat. It was kind of a no-brainer for us to recreate the magical night.”

Like the oldest newlywed couple in the world, George and Doreen, Rev. Charles and Frances have been through a lot: they've travelled the country; Rev. Charles has battled cancer for years; they've had children; changes in their careers.

But Frances says, "We’ve had a wonderful life.”

When you see how these two flirt and fuss like school kids, you wouldn't second-guess her for a second.
