Authorities say Adriana Machado Ribeiro, 42, a mom of two, and Marcone da Silva Cardoso, 26, dad to a 4-year-old, were likely engaging in sex in their car after a party in southeastern Brazil when they met their end. The couple drove to a hang gliding launch ramp on a cliff and put their car in park. The scenic view would ultimately be their downfall. Around 1 a.m., the movement inside caused the car to plummet 1,300 feet.
The pair were believed to have been thrown from the vehicle, likely after it struck a rock, according to the New York Post. The U.S. Sun reported via local media that police found their naked bodies roughly 328 feet from where the vehicle landed, surrounded by scattered vehicle parts.
Official Alberto Roque Peres told the Sun he suspected no foul play. “There were no signs of violence at the scene or on the bodies, and the car’s handbrake was engaged,” he said. “Residents reported hearing a loud noise between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m., but because it was dark and the vegetation was thick, no one saw anything at the time.”
Although the case is still under investigation, it appears no one else was involved in the incident.
Witness Tiago Amorim told the Post that it was harrowing seeing the damage. “I saw the car’s engine very far away and the car fell, [almost 450 feet] from the accident,” Amorim said. “It was a shocking scene, the car was destroyed.”
