Runner Dad Pushes Quintuplets To Honor Wife’s Pregnancy — And Breaks World Record

A man grappling with loss celebrated his family through his heartache and broke some world records in the process.

Chad Kempel and his wife, Amy, lost their twin boys from premature birth. Chad, an endurance runner, used racing as a way to cope with the grieving process. He once ran 100 miles, nonstop, in 31½ hours.

But the couple from Idaho went from two children to seven overnight after Amy got pregnant with, and successfully delivered, their set of quintuplets.

Amy endured so much in order to bring their kids into the world — "the examinations, lab work, fertility drug injections, the physical pain of the miscarriages, the pregnancy pangs, the breastfeeding pains, the healing, and the physiological effects that lead to severe post-partum depression," as Chad told Newsflare.

One night, Chad read an article about Ann Marie Cody, who broke the world record for pushing three children during a marathon.

Inspired by his love for running and the admiration he felt for his wife, Chad decided to try to break Ann Marie's record. He started training to break the record for fastest marathon while pushing a stroller with quints.

"I wanted to do a run for 27.3 miles to honor the 27 weeks and 3 days she carried the quintuplets during the pregnancy,” he told Newsflare.
