David and Victoria Beckham's West London home was burglarized in late February 2022, while they and their 10-year-old daughter were inside.
The couple are happy that their family is safe after the bizarre incident. Both David and Victoria were home, as was 10-year-old Harper. All three members of the family were asleep when a masked intruder entered their home from a second-floor spare bedroom window.
Later that evening, 17-year-old son Cruz returned home from a night out with his friends and discovered things were amiss. He spotted broken glass on that bedroom floor and woke David. Together, they called the police and searched the property while Victoria stayed inside safely with Harper.
Police believe that the intruder operated in a pretty sophisticated manner to make it in and out of the home undetected. He got out with thousands of dollars in designer goods and electronics.
"Sadly the Beckhams were the victims of some fairly professional thieves who have been operating in the area," a source told The Sun.
"Fortunately the criminals only made it as far as one bedroom before they ran off."
"The security at the house is very good, both physically and technically," the source noted.
"The thieves had broken through a window and darted straight back out of the same one with a small number of items. Luckily none had a huge amount of sentimental value to the family."
Police are looking into CCTV footage of the incident.
"The footage is said to show the intruder clambering over the gate at the front of the house," the source said.
"He then shimmied up the house and broke in through the window of a spare bedroom."
The source also said that a few of Cruz's friends had come inside with him when he discovered the evidence of the break-in.
"Cruz discovered the break-in when he arrived home in the early hours with some friends," the source explained, noting he arrived back home just after midnight.
"He immediately ran to wake his dad and David carried out a search of the house in case the burglar was still inside the premises."
While things turned out well, all things considered, the incident has shaken the family quite a bit.
"The family were clearly shaken up by what happened. It was very upsetting for them to find out the burglar had broken into the house while they were at home."
The burglar broke into a neighboring home also but found it empty. He tried a third home on a nearby street but was unable to get inside.
"Police were called at 00.37 hours on Tuesday, March 1 to reports of a burglary at a residential address in the W11 area of Kensington," a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said in a statement.
"The burglary is believed to have taken place between 20.30 and 23.30 on Monday, February 28. A number of items were reported stolen. No arrests have been made. Inquiries continue."
"Inquiries are ongoing. Police believe entry was forced to a neighbouring property, and an attempt made to access another," the spokesperson said of the nearby attempts.
"Nothing is believed to have been stolen from the first address."
