Bruce Willis and Demi Moore are still big parts of each other's lives. While many people thought it was strange that the pair of exes sheltered together for long periods of time to try to stay healthy this year, there's a reason why his wife, Emma Heming Willis, likely didn't mind it that much. And that's because she's very comfortable with the family dynamic at play.
In fact, Demi hasn't made her appreciation of Emma a secret. To celebrate International Women's Day on March 8, Demi paid tribute to Emma in a kind and inspiring way — she gave her a long shout-out on Instagram.
Bruce and Emma have been married since 2009. Together, they have two daughters of their own — Evelyn Penn Willis and Mabel Ray Willis. Bruce reportedly fell for Emma after just one date, and they've stayed strong ever since.
Emma Heming Willis had many struggles growing up. She was raised by a single mom who worked three jobs to support her family. "My mother has been the ultimate guide in my life — she is the rock that I cherish, respect and admire," she wrote on her blog. Her mom helped her jump-start her modeling career, which was on an excellent path when she first met Bruce in 2007.
She met Bruce in an interesting way — at the gym. "In 2007, I met my husband-to-be, Bruce, at our mutual trainer's gym," she said. "Two years later we got married at our home in Turks and Caicos." Their daughters were born in 2012 and 2014. However, on her biography, she also pays tribute to her other daughters — the ones Bruce shares with Demi.
"They have the most amazing older sisters, my 3 stepdaughters, Rumer, Scout, and Tallulah, which completes our family," she said. This type of attitude is exactly why she is the perfect match for Bruce. Not only does she recognize that he had a life before her, but she knows the importance of celebrating and embracing everyone.
It's fairly obvious that Demi also considers Emma to be a big part of her family. And based on the Instagram post — which paid tribute to multiple women — it's also obvious that Demi thinks the world of her. In co-parenting, a partner's happiness makes a big difference, and it's good that Demi recognizes that.
"I #SeeHer as family who I am honored to call a friend," Demi wrote. "Our children are sisters and yet there is no name for what our family connection is to one another. We are mothers united, sisters bonded on this crazy adventure of life."
"Emma is a beautiful mother dedicated to her family, an absolutely gorgeous woman and now she can add business entrepreneur to her resume," Demi added. "She carved a path quietly on her own to create @cocobabaofficial, launching the first body skincare products for woman to mother themselves!" CocoBaba currently has an oil scrub, body oil, and coconut butter mousse product in its lineup.
"Her drive, determination and passion is uplifting and the woman that she is absolutely inspiring," Demi concluded. The words were sweet for her fans to hear. Demi and Bruce have both moved on since their own romantic relationship dissolved, and they seem nothing but supportive of each other's partners.
Demi and Bruce first met at a movie screening in LA. At the time, Demi was dating actor Emilio Estevez. But when they broke up, she linked up with Bruce. Just months later, they ended up getting married in Las Vegas.
"We were moving to the gambling tables when Bruce said, 'I think we should get married.' We'd been joking about it on the flight there, but suddenly it didn't seem like he was kidding," Demi said in her book, per The Sun.
After 11 years and three children, they chose to end their marriage. The move shocked Hollywood, but as their fans now know, they've still made each other a priority. In 2015, Demi went on to marry Ashton Kutcher, a relationship that later proved not to work. Years afterward, Bruce connected with Emma.
Demi and Ashton's relationship received far more headlines than Bruce's relationship with Emma. While both new pairings had a pretty significant age gap, many were puzzled about Demi and Ashton. Some fans even thought it may have just been a publicity stunt at first. Unfortunately, their split wasn't as decent as her breakup with Bruce.
Demi talked a bit about the relationship in her book, and Ashton's response was a bit juvenile. "I was about to push the button on a really snarky tweet," said Ashton on Twitter. "Then I saw my son, daughter, and wife and I deleted it."
Now it seems as if Demi has no regrets — and is living her life the best way possible. She's surrounded by family, and that includes Emma and Emma's two daughters. And Emma's quite fond of Demi as well. In fact, she credits Demi for renewing her marriage vows to Bruce.
She also paid tribute to Bruce and Demi's daughters yet again, when talking about her 10-year vow renewal with Bruce. "Oh my gosh, when the older ones are around, the little ones want nothing to do with me or Bruce," she told Us Weekly. "The older ones, they're awesome, and they love being around their young sisters. The young ones just adore them. We're moving back west, actually, so that we can be closer to them. The girls are very happy about that."
"She welcomed me into her family like I welcomed her into ours," Emma said, referencing Demi. "Again, I have so much respect for her. I have so much respect for how Bruce and Demi worked through their divorce to be able to put their children first. I learned so much from that and grew so much from watching that. It was important for her to be there. She was at our first wedding. I loved having her there again. I wouldn't do it without her." So it seems like the love is definitely mutual.
