Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen have always had a complicated relationship when it comes to co-parenting.
On one hand, Denise and Charlie have both been present figures in their daughters' lives. Still, their ability to get along and be on the same page about the things that matter have caused headline-making clashes.
Denise is again reeling after a judge ruled that Charlie no longer needs to pay child support for their two children, 17-year-old Sami and 16-year-old Lola, retroactive as of August 2018. A source close to Denise says she was not present for court proceedings, which have been delayed for multiple reasons over the last two years.
"Charlie filed two years ago and kept pushing the court date, so Denise was very surprised that it happened yesterday while she is out of town filming. She was blindsided," the source told People.
"Now he's manipulating the situation."
The source believes Charlie is painting a picture where both the girls live with him when such is not the case.
"Lola does not live with Charlie. She lives with both of her parents and stays with Charlie when Denise is out of town," the source explained.
"When Denise is back, Lola will be with her."
Sami recently took to TikTok to reveal she'd moved out of Denise's home and in with Charlie. In an emotional video, she wrote, "1 year ago today: trapped in an abusive household, hated myself, would go days without eating or sleeping, insanely depressed, hated school, etc..
"now: finally moved out of the hell house, had a spiritual awakening, own 2 cats, happy single, full of self love, and dropped out of high school :)."
Sources close to Denise claim that Sami wasn't a fan of the rules at her mom's house and decided to live with her dad, who takes a different approach with her. Charlie, for his part, commented through a rep:
"Sam's amazing. I love her and all my children unconditionally. We’re having a ball. GED here we come!"
"This is very disappointing for Denise, but also not surprising. Charlie is pitting the girls against their mother, which is horrible," a source close to Denise shared.
"Denise loves Sami very much and Sami loves her. Denise is very saddened by the entire situation."
"She's a mother who wants to protect her kids," adds the source.
"They need structure and rules and Charlie is very permissive. Denise just wants the best for them."
