Denise Richards is having a tough time with her relationship with her daughter Sami Sheen.
The soon-to-be 18-year-old made headlines in fall 2021 when she posted some serious statements about her life and her mental health. It was at that time it was revealed that Sami had moved out of Denise's home, choosing to live with her dad, Charlie Sheen, instead.
Denise opened up about where the relationship stands in a new interview with Jeff Lewis on SiriusXM. She admitted that she hasn't been able to mend things between herself and Sami just yet.
In September 2021, Sami posted a video to TikTok that showed a photo of herself appearing upset, followed by one of her looking much happier.
"1 year ago today: trapped in an abusive household, hated myself, would go days without eating or sleeping, insanely depressed, hated school, etc …," she captioned the first image.
"Now: finally moved out of the hell house, had a spiritual awakening, own 2 cats, happy single, full of self love, and dropped out of high school :)," she captioned the second.
Around that time, it came out that Sami had moved out of her mom's home and in with dad Charlie Sheen.
It's been a few months, and now Denise is sharing an update on her relationship with her nearly adult daughter. When asked during an interview on SiriusXM's Jeff Lewis Live if she's OK with the fact that Sami is living with Charlie, Denise admitted she wished her daughter was still at home with her.
"Obviously I would love for her to live with me. She lived with me all these years," Denise began.
"But I think it's very difficult raising teenagers now and especially in Los Angeles when there's access to everything," Denise continued.
"We didn't grow up with Postmates and Uber … where you have everything that you want. There are certain rules and I enforce them. And there's different rules at [Charlie's] house and that's OK."
"I would not wanna be a teenager right now with the social media and everything that you have access to," Denise added.
"It's just, I think it's very challenging and difficult for these kids."
"Honestly, I have a strained relationship with her, and it's very difficult," Denise admitted.
"I know, though, we'll get back to where we were eventually, but right now, it is strained."
One of the points of contention between mother and daughter has been education. Sami is not currently in school, but according to Charlie's reps, she is pursuing her GED. Denise would have preferred she stay in school.
"I just, I don't agree with certain things," Denise noted, referencing differences between her and Charlie.
"But that's OK. We can agree to disagree."
