Bringing home, a newborn is always a big deal for a couple. Especially when they already have a child waiting for them at home, excited to meet the new brother or sister.
There is always the fear of the older sibling not being nice to the new baby, and even the fear of the sibling acting out more because of the new arrival. One thing parents don’t expect is the older child claiming that their newborn is in fact not their sibling.
Wonderbot tells the story of Mary and Nathan who were living the American dream. They had the fairy tale wedding all couples dream of, and reside in a suburban area in Washington, DC. They got pregnant with their son Tony and fell head over heels for him. Early on Tony started showing signs of incredible intelligence.
When Tony was 4, Mary and Nathan were expecting their next bundle of joy to bless them with her presence at any moment. Tony loved the idea and was very excited to meet his new sister. Unexpectedly, when the time came to bring their new daughter Marissa home, Tony told them, that she was not his sister.
Getting a new sibling is not always the easiest transition, so Mary and Nathan thought Tony was just jealous of the new baby. For weeks Tony would not change his opinion toward his new sister. Mary thought therapy would help Tony get over his jealousy of Marissa, but Nathan had the idea of taking a DNA test.
Nathan’s reasoning was that Tony is smart and would understand the solid evidence of the test. He then reassured his wife that they would try therapy if his idea didn’t work. What Nathan and Mary didn’t expect was the test coming back stating that Marissa was indeed not their baby.
The negative test results led to a huge investigation in the hospital. Parents of every baby born that day had to be contacted until they found the most likely child they could have switched.
