In this modern era, big families are uncommon, but then Elon Musk has never wanted to live an ordinary life. He is a father to 10 children. The Tesla CEO spoke about his large family in an interview with the Financial Times. He jokingly stated he is “pretty sure there are no other babies looming.”
Elon went on to clarify that he loves being a father. He is 51 years old and a self-proclaimed “autumn chicken.” He has not ruled out having more kids, so baby No. 11 is a possibility.
Elon first became a father in 2002. He and then-wife Justine Wilson welcomed son Nevada to the world. Tragically, Nevada died at just 10 weeks old.
In 2004, Justine gave birth to twins. Griffin and Vivian are now 18 years old. Elon and Vivian are estranged. The teenager even changed her last name so she is not “related to [her] biological father in any way, shape or form.”
When she changed her last name, Vivian also made other life changes. She transitioned genders and petitioned to be legally recognized as female. She also changed her first and middle names.
Elon blames their tumultuous relationship on liberal education. He said, per The Advocate: “It’s full-on communism … and a general sentiment that if you’re rich, you’re evil.” The estrangement does not seem to phase him too much. He went on to say: “It [the relationship] may change, but I have very good relationships with all the others [children]. Can’t win them all.”
Elon and Justine would go on to have triplets in 2006. Kai, Saxon, and Damian are now 16 years old. The couple divorced in 2008.
After the divorce, Elon began dating singer Grimes on and off. The couple welcomed X Æ A-Xii Musk to the world in May of 2020. In December 2021, the couple welcomed daughter Exa Dark Sideræl via surrogate. The couple are not currently together, but Grimes said in a tweet that Elon is her “best friend and the love of [her] life.”
In July of 2022, news broke that Elon had secret twins with Shivon Zilis. Shivon is one of his top executives at his company Neuralink. The twins were born just one month before Elon’s daughter Exa.
Elon confirmed the news about his new twins to Page Six. He said, “Bravo to big families. [I want to have] as many as I am able to spend time with and be a good father.”
Elon went on to say, “My eldest are off to college, and teenagers don’t want to spend much time with their parents. I wish they would (sigh).”
Elon worries that declining birth rates are a big problem for humanity, so he is doing his part. He once tweeted, “Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis. A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far.”
