When we think about the typical 93-year-old's life, we generally think about a well-deserved retirement and some much-needed relaxation. But for World War II veteran Ernie Andrus, life is anything but typical.
In October of 2013, Andrus set out on one of the most daunting and impressive journeys that anyone could ever make. He decided that he would run from the West Coast of America all the way to the East Coast.
This journey of over 2,500 miles would be incredible for a person of any age, but for someone over the age of 90, who happens to be a veteran no less, this feat has attracted the love, support, and attention of people around the world.
Finally, after two years and 10 months, Andrus has reached the Atlantic Ocean, defying expectations and moving hearts and minds.

Before he even considered making his epic coast-to-coast journey, Ernie Andrus had already earned the love and respect of his country by serving the United States in World War II.
But at the age of 90, Andrus decided that he wasn't done making his mark.
And in October of 2013, he set out from San Diego to cross the United States on foot.
Andrus writes on his website, "The feat is being undertaken to raise money for the LST 325 Ship Memorial."
Andrus was one of the veterans who traveled on the restored World War II ship on its journey from Crete to the U.S. in 2000. He now hopes to raise funds to return the ship to the beach in Normandy for a memorial service by the year 2019.
Folks from across the country joined in with Andrus for portions of this 2,500-plus mile journey.
The Facebook page devoted to Andrus' run, Coast2coastruns, even posted a waiver for people to fill out and bring if they wanted to join him for one or more legs of his run.
In spite of the difficulty of this undertaking, Andrus kept on trucking thanks to his own determination, as well as the support of strangers and loved ones alike.
Now, after nearly three years, Andrus has arrived at his destination — the East Coast.
Andrus finished the final leg of his run at St. Simons Island, GA, on August 20, 2016, which also happened to be one day after his 93rd birthday!
When asked what he would be doing first thing on Monday morning after completing his journey, Andrus told a crowd of fans and supporters, "I'll probably be running. Most likely, I'll go out and do three miles or so just to keep in shape."
This beautiful and inspirational veteran set out to accomplish something extraordinary, and has truly earned the love and respect of thousands of strangers as a result.
