When 9-year-old Alayna Adams threw the first pitch at the Tampa Bay Rays game, she had no idea she was in for a grand slam-sized surprise.
Before the young girl threw her pitch, a message from her dad who had been deployed in Afghanistan for the past year, played on the video board, saying he'd see her soon. Indeed he would. She lobbed the first pitch — only to discover that the catcher was actually her father, Lt. Col. Will Adams. Alayna raced to him and threw herself into his arms. The crowd erupted in cheers.
Dana Adams, Will's wife and Alayna's mom, didn't know about the surprise either. Soon, she joined them in tears. The soldier had been working on the surprise for months. Thanks to the United Service Organizations and the Rays, they made the surprise happen. How awesome!
