Stacee Carter, her partner Jack, and their 16-month-old daughters Ava and Isla were enjoying a walk through the park in Victoria, Australia. The family was strolling along, playing in the dirt, and stopping every few minutes to take some photos.
During the walk, Jack pointed out a snake near the twins, trying to remain calm so as not to cause a scene. It was a highly venomous brown snake, whose bites can result in paralysis, uncontrollable bleeding, and death. In fact, it is the second-most venomous snake in the world and cause of 60% of snake-bite deaths in Australia. The snakes are curious and sensitive to noise, so it was crucial for the family to move away from the snake as quietly as possible.
Luckily, no one was hurt.

Later that day, Stacee was scrolling through the photos she'd taken at the park and noticed something frightening. The brown snake had been lurking much closer to the twins than she thought; the image captured it slithering within mere inches of the sisters' legs.
The horrified yet grateful mom posted the photo on Facebook to warn to other parents, especially since these snakes tend to be more active during Australia's warmer seasons. "Makes me sick to my stomach, we are so thankful and blessed our babies are safe and home with us," she wrote.
Stacee's post went viral with hundreds of comments and shares.
