A 65-year-old German woman, already a mother to 13, is getting ready to give birth again.
According to multiple reports in German media, Annegret Raunigk is now pregnant with quadruplets! Raunigk became pregnant again by IVF after her youngest daughter, who is nine, asked for a sibling.
The teacher's pregnancy followed several attempts at artificial insemination over the last year and a half. Raunigk, who's oldest child is 44, told German newspaper Bild that she was shocked when doctors revealed she was carrying four embryos. Raunigk said that her doctor reportedly suggested selective reduction when they discovered she was having quadruplets, but she wasn't interested.
At LittleThings, we’ve seen our share of rare births before — like the 61-year-old women who served as a surrogate for her infertile daughter — but each story is more miraculous than the last.
The pregnancy will be documented for German TV show RTL. Raunigk, who is a grandmother to seven, is due in the summer. The pregnancy has been without complications so far. If everything goes well, Raunigk would be the world's oldest mother of quadruplets.
Raunigk made headlines 10 years ago, too, when she gave birth to her 13th child, Lelia, at the age of 55.
