Goldie Hawn has some sage parenting advice for new moms, including her daughter Kate Hudson, who just gave birth to her third child.
Kate welcomed her daughter, Rani Rose, on October 2. The baby girl is Goldie's sixth grandchild.
Now that she's been a mom and grandmother for quite a while, Goldie has some good advice about motherhood. In a recent interview, the Overboard actress explained that moms don't have to be perfect all the time.
"We do the best we can as mothers," Goldie told People. "Certainly, as a mother, I've made mistakes. We all do, we all will. But the most important thing is to stay authentic and true to yourself and hope that you show by example, not by what you say but by what you do."
The 72-year-old is also a mom of three, just like Kate.
Rani is Kate's first child with her boyfriend, Danny Fujikawa. She also has two sons from previous relationships: Bingham Hawn, 7, and Ryder Russell, 14.

Rani is Kate's third child — and first daughter — and Goldie's sixth grandchild.
Now that Kate is a mom of three like her own mom, Goldie shared some parenting advice for new moms everywhere with People. She says motherhood is all about authenticity, rather than perfection.
"We hope our children will amplify the best part of us," Goldie said. "I'm proud of my daughter. She has become a spokesperson herself for children's wellness, for happiness, all the things that she grew up with."
Goldie says she doesn't feel pressured to be a role model for anyone but herself, and she sees the same attribute in her children.
"There's no perception that I feel that I have to live up to anything," she said. "I only have to be true to myself."
She continued: "That is what I go by. I'm not conscious of going, 'I need to be a role model.' Heck no. I am my own role model. I live by my own ethics and my own standards and my own sense of love. That's who I am. I think every one of my children, I can say wholeheartedly, has this wonderful attribute."
Goldie is also mom to Wyatt Russell with her partner Kurt Russell, as well as Oliver Hudson with ex-husband Bill Hudson.
Oliver has three kids of his own, just like Kate and Goldie.
Kate's baby girl is her first child with boyfriend Danny Fujikawa.
Goldie couldn't be more delighted about the newest addition to the family.
"It's unbelievable," she said about Rani. "[A baby] changes everything."
"We're so lucky to be girls because we carry the baby," Goldie said. "It's amazing. You got this life, it's growing inside you, and then you give it out to the world. We like to say, 'Oh, this is mine.' That's fine, but it's really one of the things that we help nurture."
She ended by encouraging new moms to focus on the good stuff, even through the more challenging days.
"Each stage brings you a different kind of happiness, so focus on that,” Goldie said. “Because sometimes they’ll drive you crazy. But just focus on the joy of being able to do this at all.”
