When we think about the world of buff bodybuilders, our minds typically drum images of a young Arnold Schwarzenegger flexing his oiled-up muscles back in the '70s. While you can obviously expect to find similar men and women at a competition today, there are others who might surprise you. Contestants like 22-year-old Collin Clarke, who has Down syndrome, break that mold with his incredible determination.
But as gymnast Johanna Quaas proves as she continues her incredible athleticism while entering her 90s, there is no age limit when it comes to staying fit. When 73-year-old Janice Lorraine entered retirement in her 50s, she decided to dedicate her new free time to whipping her body into shape. The New South Wales, Australia, grandmother didn't want a simple cardio routine. Instead, she hits the gym three days a week and walks nearly five miles on the days in between to achieve her stunning bodybuilding physique.
Lorraine hopes to dispel the assumption that once we become older, we also become weak and frail. She definitely shatters that stereotype as she wins competition after competition, earning titles such as Ms. Universe, Ms. World, and Ms. Olympia while battling it out against women half her age. She explains her philosophy, saying, "Exercise makes you feel vibrant, confident and attractive." As someone who barely makes it to the gym once a week myself, Lorraine has definitely inspired me to kick my routine up a notch!
