A grandmother's love is a precious thing. Those of us who have been lucky enough to experience it know just how important it is. When Chris Burelton showed up at her granddaughter's school, she thought she was just being a supportive grandmother. She believed that maybe her granddaughter's teacher needed to tell her Natasha had been "naughty." She couldn't imagine the surprise that awaited.
Jodi Schmidt teaches in the Oakfield Elementary School District. This year, Jodi got Natasha Fuller in her group of first-grade students. Natasha has been battling kidney disease throughout her young life. Jodi felt that she needed to do something for this sweet little girl. She decided to get her blood tested and she was a match for Natasha!
In an effort to make the moment as meaningful as possible, Jodi and the school's principal, Becky Doyle, tricked Chris down to the school for a meeting about Natasha. But instead of finding out that Natasha had been bad, Jodi gave Chris the best gift a grandmother could ask for. Jodi was a match and would be donating her kidney to Natasha!
Chris' reaction is one we will not soon forget — it was truly moving to watch. This grandmother really loves her baby girl! Then Natasha joins them in the classroom and adorably doesn't understand what it all means. She must have been relieved she wasn't in trouble at school!
