When Roswell, GA, police officer Bill Lowe got a call from a gas station about 88-year-old Betty Morris, he had no idea what was going to happen next. Betty had been coming from Tampa and was on her way to Sylva, NC. She was completely lost and a little bit disorientated. A Good Samaritan called 911 dispatcher Christy Way, who relayed the info to Officer Bill.
“It was obvious she was well offtrack to get to North Carolina,” Bill told WBTV. “She slept on the shoulder of the road in her car when it got dark.”
Bill took Betty to the hospital to get her checked up. She had been driving all by herself for 30 long hours and was nowhere near where she wanted to get. The hospital provided food, but what Bill and Christy provided was so much more. Christy hopped into the driver's seat of Betty's car. Then Bill led the way in his vehicle. The two escorted Betty to her brother, who was too sickly to pick her up, a whopping 160 miles to her destination. We see cops do great things all the time, but have you ever heard of anyone doing that?
“He didn’t sound as if taking a long road trip was something that he would be able to do,” Christy said. “Bill called, and he said, 'The only thing I can see to happen is if I drive her.’ I said, ‘You know I was thinking the same thing.’ That’s someone’s grandmother and she needs to be with her family.”
Betty's brother thanked God that she was returned safely to him.
