Halene Johnson of Taylorsville, UT, had a brutal fall. The 80-year-old mother was left stranded on the floor for hours. When she finally managed to get to her cell to call her son, she dialed the wrong number.
Perhaps fate was on Halene's side — the wrong number turned out to be exactly the right person to help her. It was Detective Dana Pugmire of the West Valley City Police Department.
He was on duty helping an officer at a traffic stop and too far away to help, but he wasn't going to leave the injured woman hanging. Pugmire stayed on the line with Halene, told her help was on the way, and made small talk with her until the paramedics arrived.
Pugmire wanted Halene to stay calm. The mother is forever grateful.
“I just think this was a very special person to have been so kind,” she said.
Halene had dialed a number that was a mere two digits incorrect. Although her body is sore from the fall, fortunately there were no broken bones. Her son, Ron Gomez, is also quite happy about the coincidence.
“I thought it was amazing. Wow. What a lucky wrong number,” Gomez said, sitting at his mother’s bedside at the hospital.
