Harry and Meghan are showing their appreciation and admiration for youth giving back. The couple has sent a letter to StreetGames, a charity bringing sports to disadvantaged individuals across the UK. StreetGames teamed up with one of Meghan's favorite charities, Hubb Community Kitchen, to deliver prepared food during the health crisis.
The letter is the latest example of how Harry and Meghan have continued to support charities they were patrons of in the UK. The couple moved to Los Angeles earlier this year. Many expected they wouldn't be able to keep up. They have proven critics wrong and seem to be very supportive of various commitments while settling into their new home.
Whatever comes next for the couple, it seems likely that giving back will be at the core of it. They're still at work to make their Archewell Foundation a reality. Between health crisis shutdowns and racial tensions throughout the country, Harry and Meghan are taking their time. They're doing the listening and learning necessary to help out in the future.
Harry and Meghan are showing their love and appreciation for youth volunteers. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sent a letter to StreetGames, a charity that brings the benefit of sports to disadvantaged young people across the UK. They shared the letter on Twitter.
"We wanted to write and express our heartfelt thanks to the team of StreetGames following their support delivering Hubb Community Kitchen meals throughout London," the letter reads.
"To know that North Paddington Youth Club, Solidarity Sports, and St. Matthew Project distributed hundreds of freshly prepared meals across their networks of young people over the last few months is fantastic.
"The impact of [the health crisis] has been a scary and testing time for so many people from all walks of life, all over the world."
"However, it is in difficult times like these that goodwill to others and community spirit prevails," they continued.
"We have been touched to witness from afar the coming together of the organizations we champion and so deeply care about. The compassion and leadership of young people across the StreetGames network is vital, and it is their kindness and selflessness that inspires others to do better."
"This letter comes with our sincere thanks and best wishes to everyone at StreetGames," the letter concluded. It was signed "Harry & Meghan."
Harry has been a longtime supporter of StreetGames. He became interested in their Fit and Fed initiative to alleviate food poverty, isolation, and hunger. The program fills the hunger gap for those kids who would often receive a hot meal at school during times when school isn't in session.
Last month, Harry participated in a video call with a local partner of StreetGames, Sport at the Heart. Harry spoke with volunteers. He spoke with 19-year-old Falhat Husein and 25-year-old Matthew Burrage and Koran Goldstone.
"You're doing such amazing work and thank you so much for being you, and for being so kind and compassionate and caring to others," Harry said.
The volunteers shared with Harry what it is like delivering meals to these families. They were all touched by the gratitude the families meet them with.
"These young Londoners are so inspirational. With all that's going on across the world right now, the team received a well-received boost from the Duke. His positive and kind words really gave them some encouragement," said the director of Sport at the Heart, Nary Wijeratne, in a statement.
Harry hasn't been the only one remotely supporting causes close to his heart. Meghan has continued to show her support for the Hubb Community Kitchen since her move to Los Angeles. She began supporting the Hubb in her first palace event in September 2018.
Meghan shared a heartfelt message with the charity on the third anniversary of the Grenfell Tower disaster in London. "I think back to when I met all of you and how you had all come together in the wake of what you experienced in your community," she said.
"And now what you have done is such an inspiration, you continue to give back, you continue to put love in action. And that's really what Hubb is all about … we know it means love but you are the example of love in action, and that is your purpose."
"I'm so proud of you, so is Harry, and we are sending so much love to you from across the pond and thinking of you today, as I'm sure it's a difficult day, but also one where you can look at how much you've accomplished in the past three years, and how you continue to give back and be an example for all of those around you," Meghan concluded.
The heartfelt message is what we've come to expect from Meghan. She connects with people on a deeper level, and you can tell how touched they are by her presence and support.
Harry and Meghan are continuing to work on building their organization, Archewell Foundation. A source close to the couple told People magazine that the trademark filings are "live and pending." This comes after last week's rumors of reports that they were denied, albeit with no real evidence backing the claim.
The source says the couple have been more intent than ever on honing their mission as they see the changing social landscape.
"They have had the opportunity to speak with some incredible thought leaders, and those conversations have been deeply educational and helpful in identifying the work they want to [do] with Archewell," the source notes.
"They are applying all their learnings to the future of the organization."
Harry and Meghan shared the inspiration for the organization's name when confirming it was in the works in April.
"Before SussexRoyal came the idea of 'arche' — the Greek word meaning 'source of action.' We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son's name," they said in a statement.
"To do something of meaning, to do something that matters. Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon," they continued.
"We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right."
"Nobody could have counted on the world turning upside down," the source says of Harry and Meghan's shift.
"As many others have, they have been moved to get their voices behind supporting both the [health crisis] response and Black Lives Matter. But that's not separate or a diversion from the values and mission that will be reflected in Archewell.
"You'll see what they're focused on now will also be reflected in the core of the organization. They are excited to see it all come together. It's what they have always dreamed of doing together."
