Harry & Meghan’s Engagement Photographer Reveals How He Landed The Gig

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are celebrating seven years of marriage.

And as a result, the Duchess of Sussex shared never-before-seen images of their time together with the public.

On Monday, May 19, Meghan took to Instagram sharing a photo of a cork board with her and Harry’s “love story” depicted on it.

The cork board displayed photos of their time together since 2016.

“Seven years of marriage. A lifetime of stories,” Meghan wrote in the caption. “Thanks to all of you (whether by our side, or from afar) who have loved and supported us throughout our love story – we appreciate you. Happy anniversary!”

Among some of the never-before-seen photos were photos from their 2017 engagement taken by Alexi Lubomirski, who shared a video on TikTok explaining how he ended up being the photographer to capture such an iconic moment.

In a TikTok video, the photographer explained that he received the call to possibly shoot Meghan and Harry’s engagement photos while at a hospital while his mom was in surgery.

Just days later, Alexi was traveling to meet with Meghan and Harry to see if they “vibed.”

“As I was sitting talking to Harry and Megan and I was showing them the references, at one point, I watched them as they were talking,” Alexi continued. “They were sitting next to each other, and every time one of them spoke, the other one would look at them and literally glow.”

“And it was so beautiful to see,” he continued. “You know, when you’re sitting next to somebody, a couple, who are freshly in love, or they’ve just come up with some amazing news, they’re going to get married, or they’re going to have a baby, and there’s that glow to them, and they were just glowing.”

“And they would look at each other, and they would just would be this twinkle. And I suddenly said, ‘You know what? Forget all the stuff I’m trying to tell you, all these references. I just want to photograph you guys as you are, right? If you just give me a camera and let me follow you around for the day in Frogmore House, we’ll just take some nice pictures, and I might direct you a bit, but essentially, all the magic is there in front of me.’”

The photographer was eventually given the job and two weeks later, he would shoot the photos that would be seen around the world and grace the cover of Time magazine.

He would also capture images that only Meghan and Harry would see until now.

While describing that day, Alexi seemed to describe one of the photos taken as the couple got comfortable with him.

“Two weeks later, we were all rolled into Windsor Castle and into Frogmore House, and it was formal. You just sense this formality. And I wanted to break that. So we started off doing some pictures inside, which were just really huggy pictures, kind of like this, pictures that you will never see because they, Harry and Megan, have those, and they weren’t chosen for final ones,” he explained.

“But it helped me loosen them up. It helped me show them I’m not scary. I’m not going to sort of stick a big fat camera in your face and just say, perform. It was just about conversation, just like I’m talking to you now. It’s like, ‘hey, yeah, great. Just put your arm around them, yeah, give her a hug. Give her a squeeze.’ And it loosened them up.”

Following the engagement photos, Alexi was invited back to take the official photo of their wedding on May 19, 2018.

In a second video, the photographer called it one of the biggest moments of his career.
