Fans young and old of Japan's "Hello Kitty" character were shaken up last week when the Sanrio company made a shocking announcement about the well-loved kitten. That Hello Kitty was not actually a cat at all, but a little girl.
A very passionate young fan of the Hello Kitty character was distraught when she found out the big news, so her mother did what any mom with a sense of humor would do – she turned on her camera and let the rant unfold. The mother of the devastated girl asks her what's wrong and holding back tears, the girl replies “Hello Kitty is not an actual cat.” She continues to say “Apparently her name is Kitty White. I don’t like it!”
Mom wrote on the description of this clip on YouTube that “My daughter didn’t appreciate the truth about Hello Kitty. I didn’t know she wasn’t a cat either, poor girl." I'm with both of them. This announcement came at a very strange time, 40 years after Hello Kitty came on the scene. Sometimes the truth is better left unsaid!
