"Here comes the airplane" is a common strategy for feeding toddlers — but this pilot dad has taken it to new heights. In a video shared on Instagram, the dad first showed what "normal people" do: say "here comes the airplane" as they move food toward their child's mouth.
But as a pilot, his approach is a bit more elaborate (and his child appears to enjoy it even more than the traditional approach). “Sweet potato five niner, clear to land!” the dad announces in the video while moving the food toward the toddler's mouth.
The video was shared by Aviator Fuel on Instagram, and was captioned with, "I'm not gonna feed my toddler WITHOUT clearance to land…"
Many who commented on the video added to the joke, suggesting more pilot-inspired phrases the dad could use while feeding his child.
"I didn’t hear a landing checklist ," one person commented.
Another wrote: “Sweet potato five niner, possible Pilot deviation. We’ve got a number for you to call."

Others added that this strategy actually seems to be quite common for pilots, as their pilot parents did the same thing when they were young.
One person wrote: "My dad is a pilot and he definitely did this when we were kids! I know he did it to my younger siblings lol."
"Sounds about right!" another person commented. "When you carry him, do you tell him ‘landing gear check’ to make sure he’s ready to be set down?! I miss those days with Pilot Pops."
