Jack Quaid is an actor known for his role in The Boys, an Amazon Prime Video superhero series. He is also the star of the new My Adventures With Superman series, and has a role in the upcoming film Oppenheimer. His success may not come as a surprise due to the fact that many people have heard of his parents: Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid.
The actor said he spent much of his childhood on film sets, and being a "gigantic superhero nerd" also prepared him for his role voicing Clark Kent in My Adventures With Superman.
The actor spoke to People about what it was like growing up as the child of two famous actors.
"I grew up with friends who also had parents in the industry, so it didn't really feel different," he told the outlet. "But then you grow up, and you realize that's a pretty unique thing, that not one but two of your parents are actors. You don't realize that things are slightly abnormal until later."
The 31-year-old attended the same high school that celebrities such as Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Zooey Deschanel, and Jack Black also went to.
The actor's debut role was a minor role in The Hunger Games in 2012.
Jack told People that he really appreciates how his parents allowed him to embrace his nerdiness, which has led him to where he is today.
"I will thank them for that until the day I die," he said. "Now I get to actually live in these worlds, and that’s just been such a joy."
Last year, Jack told People that he hasn't asked his parents for acting advice.
"I've never asked them, 'How should I perform this scene?'" he said. "The way that this business works is so much different than the way that it worked back then for them. I'm experiencing some things for the first time, like working on a movie set during COVID."
However, he admitted that having actors as parents made it easier for him to pursue a career as an actor because they were supportive of his dreams.
"It's lucky that I got to grow up saying, 'Hey, I want to be an actor' and they understood that. I didn't grow up in a house that didn't quite understand what that meant or a house that would tell me, 'Oh that probably isn't the wisest choice, you should have a backup plan,'" he said.
His parents, Meg and Dennis, were in Innerspace together in 1987 and got married in 1991 and were married until 2001. They had Jack in 1992.
Following their divorce, Dennis remarried and had two kids. Meg has dated Russell Crowe and John Mellencamp, but did not have more biological children. She adopted a child from China in 2006.
On several occasions, Meg has expressed support for her son's acting career on Instagram, posting images and videos related to Jack's roles with captions like, "JACK!!!!!"
In 2016, Jack portrayed Clark Morelle on Vinyl, a period drama by Mick Jagger, Martin Scorsese, Rich Cohen, and Terence Winter.
Around the time of its release, Entertainment Tonight asked Jack if his parents were scared to watch the show because of the sex, drugs, and rock and roll, but Jack said they were "nothing but supportive."
"Both of them have seen all of the episodes so far and they're big fans, which is great" Jack said at the time.
Jack's new series, My Adventures With Superman, premiered on July 6. Oppenheimer comes out later this month, on July 21.
