6-Year-Old Dies From Attack, Then His Neighbors Show Up Dressed As Superheroes

Jacob Hall was a happy little boy who was taken from this planet far too soon.

When a teenage gunman opened fire on his South Carolina elementary school, the 6-year-old was hit in an artery and never recovered from his wounds. The attack was completely random, and little Jacob was just caught in the crossfire for no particular reason.

While there was small hope that he would survive, Jacob officially passed away Saturday, leaving behind a community totally destroyed from the horrible loss.

But with such a loss comes a small shimmer of goodness. Jacob had always loved superheroes, and always considered himself a "good guy" in a world full of darkness. The 6-year-old struck down by a madman's bullet won't be remembered as a victim, but instead as a superhero.

At the request of his mother, she asked that everyone who was planning to attend his funeral should dress up as their favorite superhero. Jacob was laid to rest dressed as Batman, and his family wanted to celebrate Jacob in a way that they knew he would love if he could be there, too.

People from all over drove for hours to give this boy a fond farewell, and hundreds of students dressed up in superhero garb in order to celebrate the short, but meaningful, life of a little boy who had such big dreams.

Jacob always wanted to be a superhero when he grew up, and while he won't be able to grow up now, he'll forever be a superhero until the end of time. He's touched the lives of family members and strangers from all over the world, and isn't that what a superhero does as well?

This boy died a superhero because, while senseless violence still exists in our world, a whole community refused to let that fact dampen their indomitable spirits.
