Janet Jackson Gives Emotional Interview About Her Son Eissa: ‘The Biggest Gratification’

Janet Jackson is a powerhouse of a woman who wears many hats, juggling an iconic career and complex family life. She is a daughter, singer, songwriter, sister, dancer, actor, and mother to 6-year-old Eissa. Motherhood is her favorite job title.

Today’s Sheinelle Jones joined Janet backstage to get an insider's perspective on her new tour, Together Again. Janet opened up to Sheinelle about motherhood. Janet had her son at age 50 and loves “everything” about being his mom.

“[The title] that gives me the biggest gratification is mama. That’s it. Mama,” Janet gushed. She shares Eissa with ex-husband Wissam Al Mana.

“When you’re tired. When you need a break. I love it all. … I’m sorry I’m getting emotional because I’m thinking of one thing in particular, and I’ll never forget it,” Janet went on to say. “It was just so beautiful, and I just thought, that’s my baby. … That’s the highest for me. Being a mama.”

Earlier this year, Janet opened up to Essence magazine about her new priorities.

"Even though it's something that I absolutely love, it still is my work, my job," she explained. "There will be music at some point. Exactly when? I can't say just yet, but there will be. I love it too much not to do it. This is all I know. There's so much that I want to do — but my number one job is being a mama."
