Olivia Wilde Is Served Custody Papers From Her Ex While Speaking Onstage At An Event

Olivia Wilde and her ex Jason Sudeikis broke up in 2020. The two never married but share two children, and both have said that their kids are the priority as they figure out new arrangements for custody and their lives.

While it hasn't appeared that they have a formal custody agreement in place, something must have shifted recently, as Olivia was speaking onstage at CinemaCon in late April 2022 when she was served custody papers.

Olivia and Jason were engaged for seven years but never married. Their children are 8 and 5 years old. The pair met in 2011 at an after-party for Saturday Night Live and got engaged in 2013.

Olivia was giving a presentation about her latest movie, Don't Worry Darling, when an unknown woman approached the stage with an envelope marked "Personal and Confidential." Olivia clarified the envelope was for her and opened it, telling the audience that it felt like a script.

Olivia glanced at the paperwork and then continued with her presentation. A source close to Jason has denied that the actor knew when the papers would be served, telling People, "Papers were drawn up to establish jurisdiction relating to the children of Ms. Wilde and Mr. Sudeikis."

The source added, "Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner."

But some legal experts don't agree. As a family lawyer told the publication, "I talked to every one of my clients to get the information on where could we serve him or her. We get all that information from them. And if you're going to go to that sort of extreme length to do it publicly, to do it in an embarrassing way, I can't see the client not knowing about it. You're obligated as an attorney to share most things that you're doing with your client."

There are also questions as to how the woman entered CinemaCon. The event's organizer explained, "As the convention organizer, we have never in the history of the convention had an incident where a delegate has approached the stage who was not authorized to be there. In light of this incident, we are reevaluating our security procedures to ensure the safety of all of our attendees."
