Jennifer Grey Wins Divorce Victory As She And Her Ex-Husband Move Toward Finalizing Their Split

Divorce is never pretty. Even if you and your spouse have ended your relationship peacefully, things can get messy when finances are involved. And it's even worse if you have the bank account of a movie star.

Actress Jennifer Grey knows the feeling. She's working through a divorce with Clark Gregg, whom she was married to for 19 years. Clark is also involved in the industry. One of his best-known roles is of Agent Phil Coulson in the Marvel universe. He appeared in The Avengers, along with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man.

Jennifer announced the split on Instagram, along with a loving photo of the two of them. That gesture alone shows that the two still have a lot of love and respect for each other. "After 19 years together, we separated in January, knowing we'd always be a family who loves, values and cares for each other," she said. "We recently made the difficult decision to divorce, but we remain close and are deeply grateful for the life we've shared and the wonderful daughter we've raised." She also admitted that both she and Clark were crying while making it official on social media.

While it seems as if the two are being fair with the split, the money Jennifer made from Dirty Dancing was still questioned.

Dirty Dancing is one of the most popular classic movies of our time. Patrick Swayze also starred in the hit film opposite Jennifer. The movie was based on a summer in the Catskills, where Jennifer's character of Frances "Baby" Houseman falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle.

The movie won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for the popular song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life." The movie is still very popular — and profitable — these days. In 2005, it reportedly sold a million copies on DVD on an annual basis. And it's also been spoofed in plenty of pop culture films today, including Crazy, Stupid, Love.

A sequel came out in 2004, titled Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. While not as popular as the first, it still did very well in the box office. Jennifer wasn't involved, but Patrick was. That said, she's still interested in being involved with similar projects. Deadline announced this past August that another Dirty Dancing film was in the works that Jennifer was on board for.

She'll also be executive producing the film. "It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise's fans have been waiting for and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the Company's history,” said Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer. Surely, having Jennifer so openly involved will guarantee that the movie will be something all fans will enjoy.

That said, it's good to know that Jennifer will be keeping 100% of the money she earned on the franchise, especially since she put so much work into it. She was also able to keep their family home, even though her ex will currently share ownership of it until their divorce is officially finalized. That date will be on Feb. 16, 2021.

Not only were Clark and Jennifer married, but they were also briefly costars. Back in 2006, the couple starred in the Lifetime movie Road to Christmas. At the time, their daughter, Stella, was only 5. While it's unclear what caused the breakup, it seems as if they had many steady years together before their relationship fell apart.

Most of the money earned from their other projects will be split, according to People. If Clark appears in any more Marvel movies, Jennifer will reportedly keep 10% of the earnings. The two got married in 2001, after dating for just around the year. Jennifer, who was 41 when she tied the knot, was pregnant at the time.

The wedding guest list was small yet included plenty of VIPs. Among those invited were Michael J. Fox and wife Tracy Pollan, and William H. Macy and wife Felicity Huffman. It took place at Martha's Vineyard and was reportedly quite a beautiful celebration of love.

No matter what, both actors seem incredibly loving and supportive of daughter Stella Gregg, who's currently 18. Stella also has some film credits to her name, including a 2013 film titled Trust Me, which also includes her dad and family friends Felicity Hufffman and William H. Macy. She played the role of Charlotte. Unsurprisingly, the movie was also written and directed by her dad.

While Clark may have been her longest-lasting love, Jennifer Grey has been tied to many celebrities in her past. For a few years, she dated William Baldwin. In the late '80s, she was also tied to Matthew Broderick, who played her brother in the hit film Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

In fact, Jennifer was involved with Matthew when he got into a car accident that became fatal. In happened back in 1987. Before their film was released, the two lovebirds — who were in their 20s at the time — took a trip to Ireland. Lost on a rainy day and driving on the wrong side of the road, Matthew and Jennifer ran into another vehicle that contained two women.

Both women, a mother and daughter, died at the scene. Matthew also had some injuries, but he and Jennifer mostly left the scene unscathed. While both Ferris and Dirty Dancing were big hits afterward, the accident made Jennifer take a pause from acting. She was too upset over what happened. "I became America’s sweetheart within five days of the accident," she told The Times.

"The juxtaposition of that deep sorrow, the survivor's guilt, and then being celebrated as the new big thing just didn't jibe. It didn't feel good to be the toast of the town," she admitted. Such a tragic incident like that is hard to forget about. The two broke up in 1988.

If anything, it's proof that Jennifer Grey has always been able to recover from bad news and terrible situations. While this year may have been especially tough for her with the January separation, she'll find a way to get through it and come out stronger. With projects already announced, 2021 is bound to be her year.
