Jennifer Lopez Was Bawling In Her Bubble Bath When Ben Affleck Got Down On One Knee

Jennifer Lopez is very emotional about her second chance at love with Ben Affleck.

The lovebirds first met on the set of Gigli in 2001. There were immediate sparks and they became a high-profile item. They even got engaged in late 2002, when Ben gifted Jennifer a 6.1-carat pink diamond ring. They postponed those nuptials in September 2003 before calling it quits altogether in early 2004.

Fast forward to May 2021 where an upside down world finds these two single again at the same time. They hang out as friends and rekindle their romance in Montana, coming forward publicly as reunited in photos from Jennifer's 52nd birthday in July 2021. In the months between then and now, we've seen them in pure PDA bliss at different events and it seems like the real deal. They took another step toward happily ever after with their recent engagement, which Jennifer revealed to fans in a newsletter on April 8.

In the newsletter, Jennifer is totally gushing over the simple but beautiful proposal.

"Did you ever imagine your biggest dream could come true?" she wrote.

"Saturday night while at my favorite place on earth (in the bubble bath), my beautiful love got on one knee and proposed."

"I was taken totally off guard and just looked in his eyes smiling and crying at the same time trying hard to get my head around the fact that after 20 years this was happening all over again," she shared.

"I was quite literally speechless and he said, 'is that a yes?' I said YES of course that's a YES."

"I was smiling so big and tears were coming down my face, feeling so incredibly happy and whole," Jennifer wrote.

"It was nothing fancy at all, but it was the most romantic thing I could've ever imagined … just a quiet Saturday night at home, two people promising to always be there for each other."

"Two very lucky people. Who got a second chance at true love," she concluded.

She did take a moment to talk about her beautiful green diamond engagement ring. "Green has always been my lucky color and now, for sure, it always will be."

Jennifer has talked about how beautiful and special the connection between her and Ben has been the second time around. A lot has changed in both their lives for the better, and they're ready to share that happiness with each other.

"We're older now, we're smarter, we have more experience, we're at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things," she told People.

Ben is dad to 16-year-old Violet, 13-year-old Seraphina, and 10-year-old Samuel. Jennifer is mom to 14-year-old twins Max and Emme.

"It's a beautiful outcome that this has happened in this way at this time in our lives where we can really appreciate and celebrate each other and respect each other," she continued.

"We always did, but we have even more of an appreciation because we know that life can take you in different directions."

Jennifer also noted that both she and Ben have different relationships with the media and their celebrity status than they did 20 years ago.

"We have been in the game in the public eye long enough to know who we are as people and what really matters and what doesn't matter. We have kids and we respect each other," she shared.

"We really live our lives in a way we can be proud of and our kids can be proud of you. We're just operating from a place of love and respect for everyone in our lives and that is very important to us. We know what the truth is [and] we hold it sacred."
