Katy Perry is one of the quirkiest celebrities around. And if you need proof, just check out what she was wearing while giving fans a preview tour of her new baby's nursery.
While Katy hasn't given birth to her first child yet, she's anxiously awaiting her daughter's arrival. Back in March, Katy announced her pregnancy in a sweet way — through a music video. She's been linked to her husband-to-be, Orlando Bloom, for years. Once they officially get married, she'll also officially be the stepmom to Orlando's other child, Flynn Christopher Bloom. Flynn was born in 2011 to mom Miranda Kerr.
Katy kept her pregnancy a secret at first. But once fans saw the revelation in her video, Katy has been more open to share. Referring to it as the longest secret she ever had to keep on Instagram, she was also quick to thank her fans for their well-wishes. "Thank you, I'm excited, we're excited and happy," she said, per Vogue AU.
During that time, she revealed she was due in the summer. So really, the big moment could happen any day now.
According to People magazine, Katy gave the tour during her Smile Sunday livestream show. She was colorfully dressed when she revealed a pink room. "Hey everyone, I'm going to show you my baby room," she said to her fans, who were eagerly watching to see what the decor would be like.
Before the tour really got into full swing, Katy showed off a few of her daughter's first outfits — including one that was a little disturbing. Sure, it may make sense for other babies to wear onesies with Orlando Bloom's face on them. But when Orlando is your dad? It's not as cool.
Still, it's great seeing that Katy and Orlando have a great sense of humor about their new arrival. And since Katy spent most of her pregnancy safely indoors, having humor is almost a trait you need to really survive. The two have been nesting and awaiting for their daughter's arrival since June.
Katy has also been learning a lot more about motherhood during this time. Luckily, she's still been able to do a few at-home remote interviews, one being with The Graham Norton Show. Aside from hanging out with Flynn, it seems like Katy has also welcomed her 9-month-old nephew and her 3- and 6-year-old nieces into her "bubble."
"Kids gravitate towards me through my music, so I am used to them," she exclaimed. "But I am not used to being woken up really early in the morning by them staring at me from the side of my bed!" Luckily, Katy still has a few more years before that becomes an everyday occurrence.
In fact, Katy may go into labor any minute. She gave an update about her new album, but in doing so, revealed more about when she's actually due. "Welp. I hate to throw this bad news at you like a pie in the face…but if there's anything 2020 taught me, it's to not get too attached to plans and be malleable," she said.
With that, she said that August 28 was her new album date — and that her baby, whom she has nicknamed "Kicky Perry," may arrive just before it. She's also referred to her daughter as "Baby cat," which is pretty adorable. Sadly, she's remained mum on the actual name choice.
As she stated to the Los Angeles Times, she knows that labor will hurt. But she's fully aware that the pain is only temporary, especially next to the decades of love she'll have ahead of her. "Five years ago, I would be like, 'Get this [baby] out of me,'" she admitted.
"But I traced back the reasons I felt insecure about it from my own upbringing," she continued. "And then I reprogrammed them. Our brain is really malleable. You can reshape it any time you want." She also mentioned that she wouldn't mind parenting differently from her parents.
While Katy's currently one of the world's biggest pop stars, she didn't get her start that way. Born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, she was raised in California by two religious pastors — Mary and Keith Hudson. Supposedly, the two had hard-partying pasts and changed everything around once Katy was born.
Living in a strict evangelical household made Katy afraid to talk about her own sexuality. So, per People, Katy wants to raise her daughter to have more "choice and freedom of thought," especially creatively. Without a doubt, Katy will use her own experiences to shape how she chooses to parent.
Katy has admitted that the pregnancy was fully planned. "I'm so grateful for everything that I have been able to do and achieve and all the goals that I've been kind of able to check off my list and dreams and the life I've lived thus far, and I think I've just been trying to create this space in my own life where I'm not running myself too ragged and like, you know, creating space for something new to happen like this," she said, per Vogue AU.
She had planned to walk down the aisle pregnant in a ceremony that would take place in Japan. The guest list was reportedly only 150 of their relatives and closest friends. However, they had to postpone based on the virus taking over much of the world. It's a solid reason for cancellation. Plus, now their daughter will be able to witness the big event in person.
It seems like Katy is fully prepared for the future ahead. And even for the many surprises, she's always managed to adapt well and do her best. Like many new moms-to-be, she likely didn't expect her pregnancy to have an extra layer of complication to it, but she's living proof that you can still be pregnant with a smile in 2020.
