Back in February of 2014, Kelsey Davis and her husband announced they were pregnant.
Their 3-year-old daughter, Brooke, was beyond ecstatic at the thought of becoming a big sister and couldn't wait for her little sibling to arrive, according to Romper.
Heartbreakingly, Kelsey later learned that she suffered a miscarriage and the whole family — especially Brooke — was understandably devastated.
"Brooke was absolutely heartbroken. She cried so hard and didn’t understand why," Kelsey told Love What Matters. "As her mom, I told her that God decided to keep the baby with him and that the baby was too precious for earth. That seemed to help her find comfort in the loss."
To make matters worse, Kelsey suffered two more miscarriages. It wasn't until early 2016 that the mom was able to give birth to a beautiful baby girl without any complications. Little Brooke, who was in the room when her mother gave birth to her sister, Ellie, was so inspired by the experience that she hoped to be a part of Kelsey's next pregnancy.
Luckily, 2017 was good to the Davis family, and they learned they were expecting another child. This time, Brooke got to play a bigger role in the birth to Baby #3.
Check out the photos and story below to hear about how 8-year-old Brooke helped deliver her own sister — and how much the experience completely changed her life.

Back in February 2013, Kelsey's daughter, Brooke, who was 3 years old at the time, was ecstatic at the thought of having a little sibling.
Unfortunately, Kelsey would experience three miscarriages before Brooke could have her wish of becoming a big sister. After seeing her mother give birth to little Ellie in 2016, Brooke decided she wanted to be a bigger part of the birth of the family's third child.
For Kelsey's third birth — also to a little girl! — Brooke would in the delivery room and actually help the midwife delivery the baby!
Kelsey explained to Love What Matters what the experience was like:
"I had a great idea that [Brooke] could not only be there, but would be able to cut the umbilical cord! She liked the idea and, at my next appointment, I brought it up to my midwife. She said Brooke could even help deliver and catch the baby! The smile that drew up on Brooke’s face was pure excitement!"
The look on Brooke's face when she first sees her sister is truly touching! You can really see what an emotional and meaningful experience this is for her.
Kelsey recalls how Brooke handled the whole situation with grace, saying:
"The midwife and nurses were telling Brooke just how brave she was for doing this. I pushed two times, and the baby’s head popped out. Brooke prepared by putting her hands with her dads to help catch her newest baby sister, and about one minute after her head came out, so did her sweet little body. Brooke melted!"
Kelsey decided to name this baby, her third daughter, Summer. She knows Brooke will never forget being in the room to see her sister's birth.
"After they placed Summer on my chest, I looked over to see Brooke just crying!" Kelsey continued. "I asked her if she was OK, and she stumbled through tears when she said, ‘Yes! She’s just so perfect!’ And she was — this all was. Our family was right where we all should have been."
Brooke later told her mom how she felt about the experience and said this:
"It was really cool being there. I think it made all three of us [sisters] have a very close bond. I learned how to help expel the placenta from the abdomen, and I also realized [that] when I grow up, I want to be a midwife."
Kelsey couldn't help but feel so proud of her young daughter for being there that day.
"At 8 years old, Brooke shows her strength, her love and her wisdom that is well beyond her years. As a big sister, she will always hold being at both of her sisters’ births close to her heart. And as her mother, I’m proud to call her my daughter."
Kelsey told LittleThings how much her birth affected Brooke, and wanted to reiterate that it was always her decision to be a part of Summer's entrance into the world. The mother of three said, "Brooke wanted to do this and she loved every moment of it! She's such a loving girl, and it doesn't surprise me she wants to be a midwife!
"She has a natural need to make people happy!" she added. "Her dad and I are very proud of her!"
It is truly so moving to see a family bond so closely together through such an intimate experience. Please SHARE these incredible photos and this story with your friends on Facebook!
