Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet have announced they are separating after five years of marriage and 17 years of being magical beings of light who thrive together, and suddenly nothing feels right in this world.
The pair released a joint statement in which they attempt to make this global devastation meaningful. It begins, "We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring."
But wait. There's more.
The pair go on to elaborate on their family news:
"And so we share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage. We share this not because we think it's newsworthy but so that as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty."
In an attempt to make us all feel better, Ma and Pa also reassure the masses that they still have love:
"The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become…"
In conclusion, they add a few more sentences followed by a magic sparkle emoji, perhaps in a jovial attempt to soothe our wounded spirits and souls. Friendship is magic:
"Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life our children. Teaching our children what's possible. Living the Prayer. May Love Prevail✨ J & L."
The two began dating back in 2005 and got married in October 2017, and perhaps we can find solace in the fact that they spent 17 years together basking in their shared love and beauty and children.
In 2016, Jason described Lisa as his "dream woman." He elaborated by sharing the night they met, insert-sparkle-emoji-here.
"It was through mutual friends," he said. "It just happened on a serendipitous night and we just kind of met and I thought she left, but I was living out of a hotel and I invited her to the diner. … I was a fool. … She ended up liking me, so that was good enough."
Of course, if this is the decision that Lisa Bonet feels is the right one for her, we will, of course, stan. But that won't stop us from tearfully poring through photos of the good days gone by, sifting through (digital) pages upon pages about their love, and wondering just what went wrong when it always seemed so right.
