Matthew McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves McConaughey, wished their son Levi a happy birthday on Instagram and announced one of their gifts to him: giving him permission to create his own social media accounts.
The couple posted their video on July 7, noting that their 15-year-old son's friends have been on social media for a while, but they were hesitant to let him join. They said in their video that Camila was still nervous about it.
"We are allowing you, Levi, today on your 15th birthday, to join the social media universe," Matthew said in the video.
The couple said that they'd been debating letting Levi join social media for about three years. Although Camila was nervous, both parents praised their son, giving reasons why he was ready to be on social media.
"He knows who he is," Matthew said. "He knows where he's going. I think he can handle it. He's got a great story to tell and share."
"He sure does," Camila agreed.
Levi is the oldest of the couple's three kids. They also have a 13-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son.
Matthew told social media users that "[they're] getting a very cool and respectful young man in Levi McConaughey coming at [them]" and said that he hoped social media users would treat him the same way.
"Levi, enjoy the adventure," he said. "Enjoy sharing your story."
