Meghan Markle Is Reportedly Planning A Home Birth And She Isn’t The Only Celeb To Do So

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are preparing to welcome their daughter sometime this summer. The pair issued a short statement on Valentine's Day confirming Meghan's pregnancy: "We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child."

Meghan and Harry followed up that announcement by revealing the sex of the baby during their televised interview with Oprah in early March.

Meghan reportedly hoped to have a home birth for son Archie's arrival in 2019, but the plans didn't work out. Now, new reports have surfaced that state she plans to try again with the birth of her daughter. Meghan isn't the first celebrity to give birth at home — if she does it, she'll join quite a long list.

A source recently told Page Six that Meghan's home birth plans didn't work out with Archie because he was overdue. "Meghan's plan was to have a home birth with Archie, but you know what they say about the best-laid plans. In the end, her doctors advised her to go to hospital and all she was interested in was about delivering Archie safely."

But now Meghan is ready to try again, especially since she's in a much happier place.

"But she has a beautiful home in California," the source said, adding that "it’s a beautiful setting to give birth to her baby girl."

Another royal source has also begun speculating on what a birth announcement might be like now that Meghan and Harry aren't working members of the royal family:

"It's unclear, now that Meghan and Harry are private citizens if they will announce the birth, or what that will look like. This time around, they don't have to adhere to the royal protocol."

Quite a few celebrities have given birth at home, and doing so offers a lot to expectant moms. For starters, it can be very comforting to deliver your child at home, where you feel safe and secure, instead of in a hospital setting. Assuming all is well with the pregnancy, a home birth can be just as safe as a hospital birth.

Jennifer Connelly gave birth to her third child, daughter Agnes Lark, at home in New York. Jennifer reportedly gave birth in a birthing pool. Agnes joins her big brothers, Stellan and Kai.

Nelly Furtado also gave birth to her daughter in her own home back in 2003. She told the New York Times, "I'm a traveling gypsy, but I nursed her for two years because I wanted to give her that consistency and comfort. I also gave birth to her at home. It was a wonderful experience, the greatest of my life."

Cindy Crawford also gave birth at home with the help of a midwife. She told Today the experience was great: "I had a real relationship with her. When I started seeing her at 30 weeks and would come see her every week, yes it was checking vitals, but also getting to know me so she understood what might come up for me in the birth experience."

Pamela Anderson also gave birth to her two sons at home. She reportedly gave birth in a birthing tub with the help of two midwives and her then-husband, Tommy Lee.
